I'm sure this topic has probably been done before, but I want to touch it again.
Which do you have and what do you pay?
I have roadrunner cable and pay $39.
Just curious if it is worth it to investigate dsl to see if I'd save money, or would I notice a signifigant drop in speed?
Thank all!
I have verizon dsl and is only like $14.00 and is not bad lol
i woukldn't worry about speeds. i w3uldn't complain myself
I have AT&T formerly SBC DSL and I pay $15 for it. Is cable supposed to be better than DSL?
The only difference about cable, is that the pages load faster.
Is it a significant difference? Pages downloading and download programs? If I find dsl for under $20, it may be worth it, but I don't want my speed to drop a lot. We love our wireless internet and don't we need a faster speed for both computers?
Thanks again!
There are some differences with dsl and cable besides the price.
First off, cable is a shared connection in your neighborhood, this means that if other people get cable it can affect your speeds.
Cable also provides a little less bandwith so if your uploading the dsl is better.
The other advantiage to cable is you don't have to have a phoneline and you can get deals sometimes with tv deals and digital phone services.
DSL you have a constant speed no matter what.
You have to have a phoneline for it and usually to get the good deals with dsl you have to have some kind of package deal with your phone company.I like the fact that DSL is a stable connection no matter what.
But otherwise there's nothing wrong with cable.
DSL does seem to be getting cheaper faster than cable however and in some cases it is faster in some areas.
For instants we get 7 meg dsl with qwest for about 30 dollars, where with charter you can get 3.5 megs for something like 50 dollars.
Cable is much easier to set up. just plug in and go. no software required. It is usually more expensive though. I have optonline and it's $50.00. That price is nuts but since I don't have a phoneline in the house it's what I have to use.
I had DSL, been a while, though, liked it sorta, in my area, for now, cable is better, I'm too far from the CO [central office] to make it worth my while, honestly, I like cable, unless it dies or drops, but as users said not enough upload, imo.
I've got cable. I tried to get dsl first, but verizon's customer service leaves a lot to be desired, so I gave up trying to get it and went with cable. I found out that my mom had a load of trouble, also, with verizon. So, even though cable is a lot more, I'll stick with it for now. <smile>
